Miso is one of the oldest seasonings in the world and has a history of more than 1300 years in Japan, and is now established as “good for you” by all aspects. Yet, most of the books that tout such health benefits were written by food and health researchers. This book presents solid biological and medical evidence from a researcher who has collected an extensive portfolio of over 20 years of experimentation and research into the benefits of miso along with his lengthy career in professional research in the field of radiation.
The fundamental power of miso is to build a body that is resistant to illness, but miso’s benefits are so remarkable that there have been many cases documenting its significant effects even after becoming sick. In this book, you’ll find confirmation of the appeal of miso, beginning with demonstrated effects against various types of cancers and so much more.
Miso: it’s not just a seasoning, but so much more!

After completing years of research into the biological effects of radiation at the University of Wisconsin (USA) and the Patterson Institute for Cancer Research (England), Watanabe began as research associate in the Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine (RIRBM) at Hiroshima University. He subsequently served as an associate professor and professor at the RIRBM, and he continues his research there today as a professor emeritus since 2004.
While he specializes in experimental pathology and his research focuses on the effects of radiation biology, Watanabe has spent many years researching and conducting experiments on the relationship between miso and radiation, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and the like, and he has also published numerous papers and given lectures on the subject.
Message from the Author:
While devoting my career to research focusing on the biological effects of radiation, I first developed an interest in miso in 1989 upon a request from my boss, Professor A. Ito, in the laboratory. While stumbling along my initial path into this research, I discovered that miso exhibits an effect of regenerating small intestinal tissue in mice damaged by radiation. Since publishing these findings, I began to research miso concurrently with my life’s work of stem cell research, and I have been able to confirm various functionalities of miso.
There are many researchers besides myself who are investigating the health functionalities of miso, and various effects are beginning to be scientifically proven. My aim with “Miso Power” is to organize these research results and collect them into an easy-to-understand format.
Upon reading this book, I believe that you will become convinced that miso’s health benefits are steadily being confirmed by professional research from experts in various fields. My hope is that many people will read this book, understand the power of miso, and take advantage of this power to lead healthier and more satisfying lives.
