Diet methods abound all over the world, and Matsuriko Natsume tried most of them during the 18 years she was obsessed with losing weight. And what she learned from those experiences was that none of them works. They all send out the wrong kind of information to dieters: fables such as "you can't lose weight unless you go on a diet"; "if you take in more calories than you burn, you'll get fat", and that there are fattening foods and non-fattening foods.

In this book, she teaches us how we can lose weight by following our body's natural flow, and explains why dieting makes us gain more weight. Matsuriko illustrates the mechanisms of our bodies and their relations to our minds from a medical point of view and also from her personal experience.

Reviews

"I Lost Weight After I Stopped Dieting", by Matsuriko Natsume, is a reverse-diet book: it tells not to go on a diet if we want to lose weight. In this book, she helps us to come to our senses and leads us to the right understanding of dieting and the workings of our bodies. The author's writing is practical and friendly while her accounts are logical and convincing without being technical.

About the Author

Matsuriko was born in Saitama prefecture, Japan in 1964. After graduating from Waseda University, she worked selling insurance, as a copywriter, and as an editor before she became a writer.

In 1998, with Yuka Nakamoto, a five-line poet, Matsuriko published a magazine called Sai, a collection of five-line-poems. In 2000, she published her own collection of five-line-poems; "Fune wa Susumudarou" (A Boat Will Sail).

In 1998, Matsuriko published "No More Diet" through the publishing company Kawade Shobo Shinsha. The book was favorably received among many dieters as well as practitioners in health fields.

She writes essays concerning the mind-body connection for various magazines, and her writing can often be found in Views from Japan, an English newsletter for the overseas mass communication field. She also provides health-related information for seminars and on her personal website "Anchi Daietto Surimingu" ("Be Slim with the Reverse-Diet").
