This masterpiece of a novel portrays the sparkle of adolescence of three young people.
The narrator, a boy who works in a bookshop in the suburbs, and Shizuo, who is unemployed, live together in poverty. A girl, Sachiko, appears in their rather ephemeral lives and captivates the two, but not long after the end of summer arrives, and with it a painful sorrow casts its shadow over the three.
