On December 16th 2019, the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Literature announced their selection of finalists for the 162nd Akutagawa Prize and Naoki Prize. Included in the five works announced for the Akutagawa Prize is Chiba Masaya’s Deadline,
winner of the 41st Noma Literary New Face Prize. The selection committee will meet in the renowned ryotei Shinkiraku on January 15th 2020, and a press conference announcing the prize-winners will be held on the same day. A full list of the finalists follows.
