Despite suffering from a stutter since childhood, Dr. Yoshikazu Kikuchi never gave up hope to make a valuable contribution to society one day. This collection of essays tracks his journey from alienated and emotionally wounded child to accomplished outpatient doctor specializing in speech disorders.

One person in a hundred around the world is said to be afflicted with a stutter or stammer. Many of them withdraw from society, developing social phobias and becoming depressed. Dr. Yoshikazu Kikuchi himself has been beset with a speech impediment since infancy, developing an aversion for telephones and going out. Friendless and reluctant to turn to anyone for advice while growing up, he resolved to find a cure on his own and went on to gain admission into medical school after vigorous studying. Thirteen years later, he continues to live with his impediment, but with the publication of this book he brings a strong, heartwarming message to everyone suffering from an inferiority complex due to stuttering.

Reviews

"It's okay." What a simple expression! But when said with a smile it can do wonders for a wounded heart. Dr. Kikuchi knows this all too well. As a lifelong stutterer himself, he has come a long way in realizing the wisdom of these words. This book is an honest account of his journey on that long road he has taken. It is also a work of literary merit in its own right, eloquently telling a poignant coming of age story.
